A great hot toddy

Hey hey, how's it going?

Today has been a bit of a crazy one so far. My initial plans of visiting a friend in Dumfries were thoroughly quashed by the heavy snow in Glasgow. I think aborting the mission sooner rather than later greatly helped the fact I've been able to make it home in one piece. Enough about the bad effects of the snow though. If you happen to be coming in from the snow, here's a great winter warmer:

A great hot toddy

I made this a few days ago, a bit of an experiment really but it turned out well. For someone who isn't exactly stark raving mad about the taste of whisky, it's a sweeter alternative. Of course you can alter the ingredients as you please to get the taste you like.

a measure of whisky
4/5 cloves
hot water
tsp honey
a squeeze of lemon juice

Pour out the whisky into a whisky glass. Add the cloves (I put mine in a tea strainer and left them in as I drank), then the hot water. Finally stir in the honey until dissolved and squeeze in the lemon juice to taste.

Enjoy the warmth!

A Longing

Hey there,

First off, I'd like to note...Friday was the first snowy day of winter! It topped off an really nice evening spent with friends to come out to snow on Aston Lane. It's been even heavier today, so much so that the train had to stop for an hour and consequently I didn't make it to church. Instead, however, I did my Christmas shopping. I also picked up some cookie cutters for some festive baking!

Cookies, here I come!

I actually wanted to share with you a poem I wrote in Sweden. It's callled 'A Longing'.

A Longing

Long to go back to the country
Where we sow in the earth,
And harvest what is given birth
By the soil and the water and the energy spent
Month after month.

For what is important in life?
We consider and we work in the fields
With our bodies, our hands,
And wield the tool which brings forth the fruits of our labour.

Take pleasure in the simple
A full life stripped back to nature.
The primary, the first,
The produce of the connection of man and the earth.
Development can be truly secondary

That's what was said about me,
And at first it made me sad.
So simple in this modern world.
But that what keeps me sane,
For this simplicity I am glad.
